NASCAR in New Hampshire live race updates, results, highlights…

Winless NASCAR drivers got a glimmer of hope to make the playoffs in Atlanta last week after Kurt Busch was just the 12th race winner of the 2021 season — and the first winner since Chase Elliott won the Circuit of the Americas on May 23.

The Foxwoods Resort Casino 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway offers the opportunity for a 13th unique winner to earn what should be an automatic berth in the playoffs; but NASCAR has not seen consecutive first-time winners this season since Brad Keselowski and Kyle Busch won in Talladega and Kansas on April 25 and May 2, respectively.

That said, there are still five races, Sunday included, to fill in four more winners for the 16-car playoffs. Every scoreless driver will be under even more pressure to make the play-offs from now on, with time shrinking before the start of the post-season.

Denny Hamlin is the most likely among that pack to take his first win on Sunday. The regular season leader – he has 10 points more than four-time winner Kyle Larson – still has not won a race this season, despite 11 top-five finishes and 14 in the top 10. But he has enjoyed success at the NHMS, including three wins and six runner-up finishes.

Sporting News follows live updates and round-by-lap highlights from NASCAR’s race in New Hampshire on Sunday. For full results from the Foxwoods Resort Casino, follow 301 of 30 laps, 318 miles long.

NASCAR at Live Updates in New Hampshire, Highlights of Foxwoods Resort Casino 301

All times Eastern

7:28 PM: Blaney and Keselowski are both battling for the lead. Harvick is right behind them.

7:23 PM: Blaney takes the lead from the restart on lap 199.

7:17 pm: Something to consider with an estimated sunset of 8:21 PM ET in Loudon, NH (there are no lights at NHMS):

From #NASCAR:

“We will race until conditions dictate otherwise. Should circumstances require us to shorten the race distance, we will announce 10 to go to the checkered flag without overtime.”

— Daniel McFadin (@danielmcfadin) July 18, 2021

7:05 PM: Note 6 (lap 185). And then there’s phase 2. Your top 10:

  1. Brad Keselowski
  2. Kevin Harvick
  3. Ryan Blaney
  4. Denny Hamlin
  5. Aric Almirola
  6. Chase Elliot
  7. Kyle Larson
  8. Tyler Reddick
  9. Ross Chastain
  10. Kurt Busch

6:54 PM: More beef, this time between Almirola and Elliott.

6:52 pm: We’re back on lap 156. Keselowski, Harvick, Hamlin, Aric Almirola and Blaney make up your top five after the restart. Thirty-nine laps remain in the stage.

6:45 PM: Note 5 (lap 139). And there is our fifth warning. Bubba Wallace comes out of the corner and spins sideways out of the corner. Chris Buescher had nowhere to go, hit him and slipped well. Wallace drove off without too much damage, but Buescher has significant damage to his right front tire.

6:30 pm: No love lost between Houff and Newman.

6:34 PM: Note 4 (lap 128). Quin Houff spins into the wall from the turn. Maybe had a little help from Ryan Newman.

6:30 pm: Hamlin has moved all the way to number 3, about 3.5 seconds off Harvick’s lead.

6:11 pm: Harvick is your leader coming out of the restart on lap 83.

6:00 PM: Note 3 (lap 75). And that’s phase 1. Your top 10:

  1. Ryan Blaney
  2. Brad Keselowski
  3. Chase Elliot
  4. Kevin Harvick
  5. Tyler Reddick
  6. Christopher Bello
  7. Denny Hamlin
  8. Ross Chastain
  9. Matt Di Benedetto
  10. Kyle Larson

5:57 pm: A pretty good race between Blaney and Elliott:

5:44 PM: And they’re back on lap 39. Cody Ware spins at the back of the pack, but the green flag remains active.

5:36 PM: Note 2 (lap 32). Anthony Alfredo seems to take some damage heading into the corner; it got loose a bit and spun itself out in turn 1, but didn’t hit any drivers. He then ran 25th. Bubba Wallace also goes to the pit lane.

5:32 p.m.: And we’re back in round 24! Kurt Busch takes over from Chase Elliott, followed by Christopher Bell, Bowman and Ryan Blaney in the top five respectively.

5:14 p.m.: NASCAR has Logano in his pit and now serving his two-lap penalty. It looks like there was some debris or rubber under the hood of his car. It has to do with some work they were trying to do on the car under red flag conditions.

5:13 PM: It looks like Truex will actually try to race there again. The cars are carefully back on track on lap 10. Joey Logano is also given a two-lap penalty for entering the pit lane while it is closed. There must be something urgent enough to want to take that penalty.

4:56 pm: NASCAR drivers report to their cars at 5 p.m.

While the drying of the track continues, drivers will report to their cars to @NHMS at 5:00 PM ET!

4:49 PM: Things you like to watch: Football.

4:23 PM: Good news:

3:37 pm: Kyle Busch on the air said his day is over. “That (car) is beyond repair.” The day of Truex is also over.

3:32 pm: Red flag is out.

15:29: NASCAR is trying to keep the cars on the track, but it looks like they’ll have to postpone it.

15:28: Kyle Busch is clearly frustrated; he bumped the pace car from behind as he drove to the pits.

3:26 pm: Caution 1 (lap 6). And we have our first warning. It looks like Kyle Busch suffered significant damage and Martin Truex Jr both suffered significant damage heading into Turn 1 due to the slippery track conditions (it’s raining out there). Hamlin and Ross Chastain were also involved in the crash, but appeared to avoid significant damage.

3:23 PM: And there’s the green flag!

3:15 pm: Reminder: Stage 1 is 75 laps, Stage 2 is 110 laps (ending on lap 185) and the final stage is 116 laps, ending on lap 301.

3:11 pm: The funniest “Start your engines” ever?

2:26 pm: For anyone curious about the lobster trophy at NHMS:

“We don’t want a plastic trophy. We really want to show New England.”
